creative careers like graphic design, animation, illustration game design, etc..are they more accepting of people that are different…

by different I mean eclectic and a bit eccentric…

example: a person who changed their name because they hated their birth name, or a guy who likes dying his hair purple…?

I've been finding out that conservative businesses like banking are less accepting of these lifestyle choices and I'm hoping creative industries are more open.

Answer:
Yes and no.

I went to Academy of Art University in SF [for fine art…drawing and painting] for a semester and there were all sorts of people there. And many artists actually instruct the classes. You’re allowed to be creative and expressive, but then you should tone it down a bit when doing professional presentations, when meeting with some clients, etc.

Answer:
It depends. Usually, tattoos/haircolor/piercings are not granted because the employee has to deal with customers and people at other firms, and those things are usually deemed “unprofessional”. Or maybe the image of those modifications doesn't fit the company's image.

Don't count on it being accepted.

Answer:
Yes providing they’ve the right qualifications. They show their individuality by their dress or manner and are usually more creative and innovative.
We really don't want any more “creative” or “innovative” bankers, do we?

Answer:
I think careers in beauty and art would be the most accepting, mainly because they encourage you to express yourself.
