I got a belly button piercing 10 days ago. The first week it looked fine, but now it's really red were the ball sits on it. It's kind of draining, but they stated that's to be expected. It doesn't really injured until I clean it with the anti bacterial soap they said to.

Is this normal?

What should I put on it?

This is my first piercing so I really don't know what to look for.

PLease give me advice and experiences. I really have no clue how navel piercings heal or anything like that.

Thanks

I’ll swear by this. I have my belly button done twice- on the top and bottom. I didn't do this with the top, and it got infected. I did it with the bottom and it healed without a single problem.

Get sea salt. Put it in a shot glass. Get warm to hot water (as hot as you can handle). Cover the piercing.. make like a suction over it. It draws out all infection. The first few times you do it, you’ll see icky stuff coming out of it. That's just the gross stuff infecting your piercing. Leave it on there until the water is cool.

I did this 2-3 times a day.

Good luck

Unfortunately your piercer hasn't bothered to learn the latest advances in piercing. About 10 years ago we figured out that soap irritates piercings which makes them red and sore.

Stop using the soap. Don't move the jewelry while it's healing. It only creates microtears in the healing tissue.

Start doing sea salt soaks. Mix 1/4 tsp non-iodized sea salt in 1 cup of boiling water. Let cool so that it's warm but not hot. Soak your piercing for 10 mins, 2-3 times per day. The easiest way to do this is to use a cup or bowl, bend over, press the cup against your navel and hold it there while you stand up. It should create some suction and not leak.

The redness and soreness should clear up in a week or so. Just remember not to move or touch the jewelry.
