I would love to get a tattoo.A tribute to my mother who recently passed away.I'm just terrified of needles.Dose anyone know of something that might help.I always tend to pass out with it comes down to it.

Answer:
Sorry to hear of your Mother, great idea for a tribute though.

You’re afraid of something (needle) that’s plunged into your skin like getting a shot. Yes, a tattoo gun uses needled and calls them that, but only penetrates the outer few layers of skin. I think that if you ask your tattoo artist to show you a tattoo gun when it's set up, you'll see that the needles don't go that far into the skin. Also, the pain isn't much, if you've had a sunburn and lived to tell about it, you've experienced tattoo pain; they're very similar.

Explain your phobia to your local tattoo artist. If you were to walk into my place and talk to me about it, I'd likely set up a gun, let you see how everything works and even offer to prep the area and run a line on you without ink so you could see what it was like before getting a tattoo.

If you walk into a shop and they laugh or make fun of you, turn around and walk back out. Your fear of needles is as real to you as their fear of (INSERT FEAR HERE:cops, spiders, machete wielding murderers, clowns). Bottom line, you deserve to be treated with respect when you walk in; if they give you anything less, don't think about giving them your money or skin.

No matter what you decide, let your heart and common sense be your guide. Good luck with the tattoo

I also am terrified of needles, getting blood drawn is the worst! I usually pass out, throw up, get dizzy, pale, break out in sweats, etc.

But i just got a tattoo on the 20th and it's a totally different experience. I really didn't see the tattoo machine as a needle so it was so much superior than getting blood drawn.

My recommendation is get the tattoo if it's important to you and just dont look at the tattoo when you're getting it down. I think you'd be surprised how much different it is from getting a shot.

Answer:
I’m so sorry for your loss. I think your idea for a tattoo is a great idea for a tribute to your mom. Just make sure you go somewhere with a good reputation. For your fear of needles, maybe speak to the tattoo artist and have them explain what happens. I’ve been with friends when they had their tatts done and they say after a while you won't feel it. You also probably have the option of only getting part of the tattoo done if you are worried about how its gonna feel.

Answer:
hmm…this is a tough decision. some people just can't deal with needles period, some people can generally put up with it, and some don't care at all. i fall in between the last two, but a few years ago i was definately number 1.

if it is something you completely can’t handle, i state don't go for it. if you think you're going to pass out, the tattoo parlor may consider you a liability although i'm sure they deal with it all the time.

aside from the needle factor, if it is the pain you are worried about get the tattoo someplace with lots of body fat. the more fat, the less pain. obviously the butt is an best place…however places like your ribs, hipbones, wrist, ankles & feet are large pain areas and people tend to either pass out or throw up during the tattooing process.

myself, i was once afraid of needles then realized i was more scared about the pain itself. my first tattoo i had done on my wrist, and i'm not going to lie it was one of the longest and worst things i've ever felt.

i don't know if they make any medicines you could employ before getting it done, but the needles aren't actually so bad. the gun itself is massive, and the noise is loud. sounds like you may not be able to tolerate it…however, you could always tell the artist to keep tattooing if you do pass out i suppose.

Answer:
When I got my first tattoo I was also scared of needles. The nice thing with mine was it was on my back so I did not see it. Either way, you really can not see the needle, all you see is the tattoo gun. I would try to over come your fear first. Also when you go and get the tattoo, let the artist know you are a tiny scared, this might also help them gage how to work with you.

Good Luck=)

Sorry to here about your mom

Answer:
Have the tattoo done on an area that you can't watch (like your shoulder etc)
Also, tattoo needles are not like going and getting a shot at the doctors office. Not only are the needles different but the process is by no means anywhere similar. I LOVE getting tattoos, but I can't stand getting a shot, nearly sends me into a panic. But like I said, it is different….
If you go to a good shop, they are probably use to dealing with this issue.Speak to your artist before hand so that he/she is anticipating your reaction. Take someone with you that will speak your head off, that’ll distract you. Or take an ipod/mp3 player and blast your favorite music. and remember, you’re doing it for your mom… that should help,
Hope this helps….

Answer:
how about finding another way of paying tribute to your mom instead of causing yourself such horrible anxiety. How about starting a fund for scholorships in your mother's name, make a donation of money or time to a charity, start a community garden in her name, etc. etc. etc. I am sure she would appreciate that more than a tattoo

Answer:
WELL… Just do it, spend some time touching needles, get over the fear a lil bit. Also, just look at photos of them. Then, when you go to get the tattoo some of the fear should be gone, not all of it. But thats where your strength of with comes in. Just sit there and endure it, youll come out a much stronger person…

Answer:
Well if you’re that scared then you should probably wait. I have the ability to tell you that it is more of an annoyance than a pain. It's not like getting a shot or getting blood drawn. It's more like poking yourself with a bobby pin.

Answer:
Well you’ve a couple of choices. You don't have to do it, you can suck it up and do it and just speak to the tattoo artist and he’ll go slow and if you need to take a break you can.
