She is too young to be on here, so im asking it for her.

she has gotten a cartilage piercing about one month ago, and it looks as if there is a ring/donut around the front of it. What is this and will it lead to infections ?

Also, she’s starting swimming lessons tomorrow, will this be okay for her ear and what should she clean it with ?

Thankyou VERY much for all of your help.

Answer:
The posters above me are completely wrong. Sea salt soaks are some of the best things to put on a piercing, as they help with infection, swelling, blood circulation, and naturally cleanse the area. Each high quality professional piercer advocates sea salt soaks for each piercing, from nipples to ears. It sounds like she has a tiny bit of scar tissue built up around the area — it will most likely go away with time. If it's still painful in a few more weeks, have her get it checked out. She should be fine to swim, as long as she does a sea-salt soak post swim.

Ane NEVER put Neosporin on a piercing!!!

Answer:
DO NOT PUT ALCHOL ON A PEIRCING!!!! No alcohol or peroxide!

The ring/donut sounds care about it could just be dried puss which is very common and should not lead to infection. Clean with anti-bacterial soap, do the sea salt soaks. You're not supposed to stay in the water very long with a new peircing, so I suggest getting a big water-proof band-aid and putting it over the peircing while she’s in the water.

Answer:
The donut ring sounds like an infection itself…. is it sore? Buy piercing cleaner from claire's, sea salt doesn't sound too great. Have her put neosporin on it too and make sure to keep the earring clean.

Answer:
I dont know whats going on with it…but…you’re never EVER supposed to use any chemicals to clean piercings…specifically not sea salt and/or alcohol. Non-scented soap and water…thats it…

NO CHEMICALS.
