I got my navel pierced for the second time in June, with stainless steel jewlery. Tuesday i started to develop a rash around my navel. It seems to be spreading a tiny… its red, and a little bumpy and raised, ITCHY as hell!!!! About 2 inches wide and 2 inches up and down…pretty much a prefect circle around my navel

I am going to see a piercer as soon as the shop opens….before I go to the doctor to see if they think its piercing related… can a metal allergy develop months after? None of my other piercings are having this problem… help?

Answer:
Odd..
Have you changed the jewellery since?

Was it surgical stainless steel or just stainless? Plated (I hope not, but people do)?
Go see a piercer and try PTFE, titanium or glass in there.
Use a topical antihistimine on the surrounding skin, but leave a good gap around the piercing.
A hot, wet, pure chammomile teabag soak for a few minutes will help soothe it too.

I mean you could of just torn it a tiny or gotten it irritated, but they're aren't normally so red when you do that. Or it could be a bug bite or something absolutely unrelated.

I wouldn't bother with the physician, unless they somehow know about piercings (very few have any clue). Most will just tell you to take it out, without even looking or trying anything else. Go see a good piercer, then if it doesn't clear up, then go see the doctor.

Answer:
I understand you got it pierced with the stainless steel, but, have you changed the jewelry since then? What kind of jewelry do you use now. It's highly unlikely that after that much time you would develop an allergy to the stainless steel.

Do you take the jewelry out often? Do you ever leave it open and have to force it back in when you put new jewelry in? Are you using some kind of body spray or perfume in the area? Have you switched soaps or detergents? I don't think it would be an allergy to the jewelry unless you are using something different now.

Answer:
I’ve reaction to anything except gold. Solid silver is ok, but silver plate I react too. If you’ve the same problem, you will have to remove any metal and replace with gold.

I also heard of other people reacting that don't react to platinum, but I don't own any to try.

Answer:
What are you doing to clean it?

If you are putting Neosporin or any other petroleum-based goop on it that could be the problem.
