How small can you get the writing and still have it look nice and legible? Any photos will be greatly greatly appreciated!

Answer:
My artist (of 28 yrs experience) told me, after doing an extremely detailed tat for me, that to hold up well over time, that letters should be 1/2″ tall. Of course it matters on type of script, and line size. But there needs to be a certain amount of skin space around the lines, for then to stay as crisp as possible and not blur.

luck to you

Answer:
A lot of it just plain comes down to the skill of the artist and the font used (some are more legible than others). Your ideal bet if you’ve an idea what you want would be to drop by a tattoo shop with:

a: the quote in question, written down

b: a sample of the font(s) you'd like to use

Any competent tattoo artist will be able to tell you right away how small they have the ability to go pretty easily. There is no obligation to you to go through with anything after consulting a tattoo artist, they get people stopping in to ask them questions all of the time. That’s really your ideal bet for getting an answer since none of us can really truly answer you for sure.

Good luck!
