I’ve been into tattoos and piercings ever since i can remember. I was fascinated with my fathers tattoos and developed a deep love for the art of body modification. I have quite a few tattoos and piercings myself and i have adequate drawing skills. I am looking for an apprenticeship in a tattoo shop in my area. What are some things i could do to obtain an apprenticeship. I'm determined and artistic, articulate and very friendly. What are some things that could help me out? How did you get your apprenticeship?

Experienced people are ever so welcomed!

Answer:
Put together a portfolio. What will serve you best is one full of different mediums. Do you work with paint? Colored pencil? Charcoal? Showing that you’re a talented artist but also diverse in what mediums you can produce in will help demonstrate that you can learn to tattoo. Don't worry about featuring work that looks like tattooable work, just put together a book of stuff you have done that you feel showcases your talent ideal.

Put together tiny business cards with your contact information. You don't even have to put a job title on it, just put your name and contact info. That way if you find a shop that states “well, we are not interested in anyone right now but maybe soon…” you can state “well, here is my contact information!”. It will make you look a bit more put together and professional than just writing your phone number down on a Post-It. ^_-

Good luck!

Answer:
Made friends and connections with the local tattoo artists in my area for years. When I ran into the guy that I really wanted to teach me, I showed him my portfolio and asked him. He thought about it, and then said yes. I picked him, cause not only was he really good, and a shrewed buisinessman, he didn't have a swelled head. It has worked out really well. Got really lucky with him. Nice guy.

Answer:
I Am Not A Tattoo Apprentice But My Cousin Is Currently Looking For One.

She Just Went Into Shops & Asked If They Were Willing On Taking On An Apprentice In The Near Future & One Place Said They Are Interested & Took Her Name & Number Just Incase.

I Guess You Could Possibly Take In A Portfolio Of Other Artworks & Art Forms & Let Them Have A Look & See What The Think. There's No Harm In Asking Another Artist For Their Opinions. Then You Never Know, It Might Pay Off.

Good Luck.
